Internships, career guidance available

According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, recent graduates wish that they had more guidance in finding an internship, more access to off-campus career fairs, alumni introductions and mentorship opportunities.

Staff in the Center for Student Success, located in Mott 209, can help make these wishes reality.

In the Center for Student Success, students can set up an appointment with internship coordinator Diane Kirkham to talk about career goals, brainstorm ideas and learn how to make connections and land a job shadow experience, a volunteer experience, a part-time job in your chosen career, or an internship.

Olivet’s professional insurance fraternity chapter, Gamma Iota Sigma, hosts a yearly career fair, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the morning at The Cutler Event Center. Free shuttles are available from Mott, and the word of the day is professional – in dress, resume and attitude. More than 50 employers will be on hand.

Another interview fair is available on Friday, Feb. 19 in Lansing through Job Pursuit. In addition to these events, there are other opportunities to attend fairs in the surrounding areas. If students are interested in attending a job fair in another location, the Center can reserve a van and provide transportation to and from the fair.

This spring, our Center will be also be holding workshop sessions for resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills and dressing for success. Stop by Mott 209 to show your interest and to find out more. An Alumni/Student Speed Networking event, similar to the one held this past Homecoming on campus, is also planned.
