Hometown Hairstyles

Becomming a hairdresser was inevitable for Rachel Rankin of Olivet. Her mother, Michelle Hilliou, did hair in Battle Creek, Rankin said.

And last year, Rankin found herself logging 1,500 hours at The Salon Spa Academy in Battle Creek, graduating in September.

Since October, Rankin has been at Main Street Stylers, alongside owner Peggy Schnepp, who has been at the 122 N. Main Street location for 13 years.

Rankin, of Olivet, enjoys all aspects of her profession. “Men’s cuts, color, I like it all,” she said, as daughter Ainsley, 4, played quietly nearby.

When it comes to good hair, Rankin admires actress Jennifer Aniston’s styles. The secret to good hair is “a good cut,” said Rankin, as well as “fresh color, good product,” and proper care by the owner.

Rankin, as does Schnepp, takes walk-ins and appointments at the full-service hair salon for men and women. Find them in Olivet at 269-749-9700.
