The University of Olivet’s Softball team began their season with a loss to Capital (Ohio). Although they lost, they were still guided and led by their Head Coach Michaela Hamilton.
Hamilton earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Troy (Ala.) University in 2014 where she played softball for two seasons. Before coming to Olivet, she served as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College for four seasons.
“This year, we’re finally in a good spot, but it’s all about getting the girls the mentality that they can do this, that we’re not the same team that we’ve been the last couple years, that they can compete, and they can work hard,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton wants her players to succeed on and off the field. “She sees all of our potential and wants us to succeed all the time,” said sophomore Breanna Ramos.
Hamilton can use her experience as a player to reach her players and help them become better.
“She is very passionate about softball. She was a player herself so she knows what she’s talking about,” said Freshman Avery Lowell.
Hamilton knows that her team is still young but right now she is focused on the little things.
“What makes her unique is that she’s willing to listen to us and make adjustments based off of what we need,” said sophomore Katie Rugg.
