OLIVET, Mi – The Olivet College (OC) men’s volleyball team held their first ever tournament fundraiser on Nov. 6. This event was proposed by head coach Kenny Brokaw to get pre-season scrimmages in while also raising money for the team at the same time. This money raised will go toward a variety of expenses that the team may face throughout the season, such as traveling, food on the road, and gear.
The comets saw this as a great opportunity to get some extra experience playing together before their season starts.
“We really enjoyed how we actually got to compete and see how we looked together before the actual season starts,” said Dakota Galeazzi, sophomore.
The comets played five matches throughout the day, and just as they thought, the tournament gave the comets the chance to get to know themselves as a team on the court. It also gave them the chance to work on some issues they have been having as a team and improve on those aspects of their game.
“We talked about controlling errors and switching players around to see where everyone can possibly play if we need to switch things up,” said Galeazzi. “We didn’t get to do any tournaments last year, so this gave us some extra preparation for this upcoming season because we have about four tournaments.”
Stay tuned for the men’s volleyball team to travel to Wisconsin to begin their season Jan. 13, 2022, at Lakeland College, and get updated on their games at olivetcomets.com.
