OC Tennis Teams Succeed during Pandemic

The Olivet College (OC) tennis teams, both men’s and women’s have been doing exceptionally well this season in spite of all of the hardships that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused. Both teams currently sit at an even 3-3 record, three wins and three losses. The women’s team has beat Cornerstone, Lourdes, and Manchester so far this season. On the other side, the men have triumphed over Concordia, Trine, and Cornerstone.

Many winning teams often share one key aspect, exceptional team chemistry. The women’s team is no exception.

“We have a family-oriented atmosphere which allows us to understand and get along with each other while being competitive at the same time,” said Emily Foulk, junior.

Tennis coach Andrew DeBruyn has also noted a few key players who are off to an exceptional start so far this season. Some of which include sophomore Ally Sears, who has started 4-0 on the season in singles matches, and senior Desiree Luque Pradas, who is 5-2 in her singles matches as well as with her partner Makenzie Borg in doubles for the year.

On the men’s side, sophomore Sam Vondra and junior Ben Morrow are 2-1 in their partnered doubles matches. In addition to those two, sophomore Kjeil Dickinson is undefeated in his singles matches with a 3-0 record.

The next scheduled matchup for the men is March 20 versus Grace Christian, and the location is still to be announced. The women’s team meet Saint Mary’s at Minges Creek AC for their next matchup on March 13.
