Men's Volleyball
The Men’s Volleyball team started the week on Sunday finishing up weekend play in Wisconsin. The Comets fell in four sets to Wisconsin-Stevens Point, finishing winless at the St. Norbert (Wis.) College Invitational. Quinn Dickerson led Olivet with 13 kills in the loss, as Will Mensching recorded a team-high 15 digs.
The team then traveled to Siena Heights on Wednesday, where the Comets were swept by the Saints in three sets. Dickerson led Olivet with nine kills and four service aces. Matthew Tollar tallied nine digs in the losing effort.
To finish the week, the Comets competed in the Hiram Triangular in Ohio on Saturday. Olivet first lost to Hiram College in four sets, seeing Ethan Valente finish with eight kills and Tyler Batt record two blocks. The Comets then followed that match with another loss, this time to Arcadia University (Pa.). Olivet’s second loss of the day came in three sets. Dickerson had nine kills and Kai Hartman finished with seven digs in the team’s final action of the week.
Olivet now holds a record of 2-11 on the season. Next up for the Comets is a home game against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, Feb 17.
Men’s Basketball
Olivet’s Men’s Basketball hosted Calvin University on Wednesday, losing by a score of 90-62. Noah Wiswary led the team, scoring 22 points and dishing out three assists while Conner Schipper recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Comets then celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, seeing five seniors play the final home games of their careers. Olivet was able to best Trine University, D3Hoops’ No. 2 ranked team in the nation, in an 87-75 victory. Ryan Bart dropped 22 points and Wiswary added eight assists in the upset victory.
Olivet is now 4-19 (2-10) on the season with two remaining games on its schedule. The team will travel to Hope College on Wednesday, Feb 14, and to Alma on Saturday, Feb 17.
Women’s Basketball
The Comet’s Women’s Basketball team competed once last week, celebrating its Senior Day on Wednesday against Saint Mary's (Ind.). Olivet secured the victory, winning 76-73 in its final home game of the season. Lilly Connelly led the team in all three major statistical categories, scoring 19 points, recording five assists, and collecting eight rebounds.
Olivet now holds a 9-14 (6-8) record, with two contests left. The Comets will travel to Trine (Ind.) on Wednesday, Feb 14, and to Calvin on Saturday, Feb 17.
Wrestling
The University of Olivet Men’s Wrestling team hosted Adrian on Thursday, celebrating the Senior Day of seven wrestlers, in its final regular season match of the year. The Comets fell to the Bulldogs by a final team score of 29-16. Olivet secured four individual wins on the night from Dylan Phelps, Tyler Herrema, Ramiro Guerrero, and Donovan King.
The team’s next action is on Saturday, Feb 17 when the Comets travel to Trine (Ind.) for the 2024 Mid-States Invitational.
Men’s Track & Field
The Comets traveled to Grand Valley State University to compete in the Grand Valley Big Meet Invitational on Friday, where multiple school records and personal bests were set. Jordon Brown broke the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.73 seconds. Chris Davis ran a school record mile time of 4:14.73 and ran a personal-best 800-meter run at 1:56.53. Other personal bests included Charles Miller with a time of 7.17 seconds in the 60-meter dash, Jonothan Holloway with a 400-meter dash time of 51.93 seconds, David Sinkler with a length of 47 feet, 4 inches in the weight throw, and Aaron Garcia with a shot put of 34 feet, 3-1/2 inches and a weight throw of 34 feet, 10-1/4 inches.
Olivet will travel to Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, Feb 16.
Women’s Track & Field
Olivet’s Women’s Track and Field team also competed in the Grand Valley Big Meet Invitational, traveling to compete on Saturday. Aubrey Connelly, London Eldridge, Allyson Stevens, and Tonya Tepin recorded the second fastest 4x400-meter relay time in school history at 4:18.18. Eldridge also set a personal best 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.98.
The Comets will travel on Friday, Feb 16 to compete at Saginaw Valley State University.
Stunt
The University of Olivet’s Stunt team traveled to Alma College on Saturday for Mid-America East Conference Play to face off against both the Scots and the Spartans of Michigan State.
The Comets went 0-2 on the day, losing to Alma 24-0 and to Michigan State 20-0. Olivet is now 0-2 on the season. The team’s next competition is on Sunday, Feb 18 at Muskingum (Ohio).
