Baseball
The Univeristy of Olivet baseball team traveled down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to start off their spring break festivities on Sunday, Mar. 10. The Comets faced the Quakers of Wilmington College, defeating them 5-1. The Comets were led offensively by freshman Austin Alflen who went 3-5 at the plate while also collecting a run batted in and scoring a run. Sophomore Will Myrick went 2-4 at the plate while also collecting a run batted in as well as a double. Senior Keegan Kuha led the Comets on the mound with seven innings pitched, five hits, zero earned runs and six strikeouts. The Comets face the University of Hartford Hawks Monday, Mar. 11 at 9 a.m.
Men’s Track and Field
The University of Olivet was represented by two Comets this weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the NCAA Division three indoor track & field championships. Senior Jordan Brown placed eighth in the 200-meter with a time of 21.83 seconds on Friday, Mar. 8. Brown was named an NCAA All-American for his performance. Freshman, DeVondre Chandler participated in the high jump on Saturday Mar. 9 where he placed sixth with a jump of 2.04 meters which is a new school record. Chandler was also deemed an NCAA All-American for his performance.
Men’s Volleyball
The Comets faced off against Hiram College and St. Norbert College on Friday, Mar. 8. The Comets fell to the Terriers three sets to one. The Comets took the first set thanks to a kill by senior Quinn Dickerson. The Terriers would go on to take the next three sets to close out the match. Senior Everett Haynes had a team-leading 13 digs. The Comets outscored the Green Knights of St. Norbert three sets to one. Dickerson led the team with 26 kills and five aces along with Haynes having 10 kills and senior Deontay Thomas also had 13 kills. Kai Hartman, a senior, also showed out, collecting 42 assists. The team will welcome the Bulldogs from Adrian College to Olivet next Saturday for their next match.
Olivet High School Women’s Varsity Basketball
The Varsity Girls Basketball team played in the district semi-finals against Western High School on Wednesday, Mar. 6. The Eagles started out hot, leading the Panthers 9-6 after the first quarter. The Panthers retook the lead in the second quarter and took a 21-12 lead into halftime. The Eagles came out from the half hot and outscored the Panthers 12-4 in the third quarter to find themselves down by only one, 25-24, going into the fourth quarter. The Eagles fought hard, but eventually fell to the Panthers 36-30. The Eagles concluded their season with a record of 14-10.
