Finals week at The University of Olivet is around the corner. Finals start on Wednesday, April 23 and go till Friday, April 25. Class schedule is still normal on Monday and Tuesday.
Exams are not going to be at the same time as normal class. To find the exam schedule go to MyOlivet portal under the “academic calendar and final exam schedule” link. Ask any staff or faculty member to help read the schedule.
As finals approach, don't procrastinate and stay up to date with all homework and turn it in on time.
“The classes you need to graduate, like for your major, those should be your biggest priority,” Morgan Rachow, sophomore said.
When studying, find what works because every person is different. Some strategies to use are to write everything down or make a study group.
“There's actually research that shows if you write something down like good ole fashioned paper pencil, that you have a greater chance of committing it to memory, so then you can recall it during your test,” Deborah Paquette, director of student support and academic accommodations said
Try to get the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep and to help aid with that stay off your electronics two hours before trying to fall asleep. Also eat healthy and watch caffeine intake.
According to Robin LuckadooChadderon, director of counseling, health and wellness, some other tips and tricks as finals approach are to grant brain breaks when needed, make a list of what needs to get done and cross it off when completed, look at schedules in advance, and find techniques like breathing exercises to lower anxiety levels.
“Anxiety is really more about the future and the unknowns so the more you have a plan the less unknown there is,” LuchadooChadderon said.
If you are still struggling or feeling overwhelmed, reach out to Robin to set up a counseling appointment or reach out to any other staff and faculty members like professors.
