The federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently made two announcements that might lessen stress on students juggling end of the semester work and tax filing deadlines.
First, the deadline to file federal tax returns has been moved from April 15 to May 17. This is a 30-day reprieve for most all federal tax filings.
The IRS also wants to remind students that any emergency financial aid grants received during the COVID-19 pandemic are not included in a student’s gross income. For information on this and other tuition related expenses and reporting, the IRS refers students to Publication 970, which can be found on the IRS.gov website.
