Electronic sports, or E-Sports, have gained over 210 million viewers worldwide from 2018-2023, according to a Statista survey. This rise in popularity has caused it to become a sport at many colleges including here at The University of Olivet.

The first season of E-Sports was the 2023-2024 school year. The director was Elizabeth Layton. Now in the second year, the director is Kyle Wilkowski.

Milan Tucker, who is a junior on the team, explained what it was like being in between coaches. He said, “It was a long process that we had to get adjusted to. There was a certain time period with no communication.”

Some games that are offered for players to play include Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch 2, Super Smash Bros.

The team competes in the new restaurant, Block House which opened up in 2024. Before then, Overwatch 2 player and junior, Damani Hicks, said that they played in the Lawerence Room inside the Cutler Events Center.

Tucker also said that playing in the Block House, “makes it a different type of competition. There’s more of a thrill.”

The Overwatch team competes every Thursday inside the Block House and practices 2-3 times a week according to Overwatch 2 player and sophomore, Nicholas Gutierrez.

For anyone who is interested in joining the E-Sports team, Hicks says to go for it, “E-Sports has a fun, loving, and competitive culture that will allow you to be the best version of yourself.”
