What is "Porching"?

The Olivet campus becomes fun as the temperature begins to warm up. During the fall and spring, usually the later and early days of the school year, Greek houses on campus can be seen porching.
Porching brings excitement back on campus and gives the students a reason to finish the year out and study to do well on finals. It's a way for students to take advantage of the warmer days at Olivet.
The main reason they do it is usually to bring out fun and make it feel like summer time by playing loud music that can be heard throughout campus, especially if multiple houses are porching. The main houses that porch every year are Soronian, Adelphic, and Phi Alpha.
“I usually know it's getting warmer because the houses did the same thing during my freshman year. They played music and games usually after classes so that other people can join them,” said sophomore Justin Kephart.
The main games that are played during porching is cornhole, playing catch with a football, and you may also see a soccer ball being kicked around as well.
“It's fun to experience porching from both sides now. With my first two years, I was a nonmember of Adelphic but would go over and chill and hang out, but now that I'm a part of the house, it's more of a bonding experience for the new members with the older ones,” said Junior Garrett Gee.

Sometimes, during porching, houses will grill out and make hot dogs and burgers, which can be shared if asked. Anyone is welcome to come by any house and hang out to have fun and relax from class stress or to hang out and chill with classmates at Olivet.
“It's super nice for relaxing, and it's also nice to enjoy the weather. Sometimes we do homework, but it is just a way to enjoy the day with friends and sisters of soronian,” said senior Liberty Tetzlaff.
